Aftercare That Protects Your Results

Good aftercare protects your results and supports recovery. Sensible, general guidance on caring for skin after aesthetic treatment.

Treatment tends to get all the attention, but the days that follow it quietly decide how good, and how lasting, your results are. Aftercare is not an afterthought. It is part of the treatment.

The specifics always depend on what you have had done, and your practitioner will give you tailored instructions. What follows are the principles that sit behind most of that advice.

Give the skin room to settle

Immediately after many treatments, the skin is doing important repair work and is best left largely alone. That usually means keeping the area clean, avoiding heavy products or make-up for a short window, and resisting the urge to touch, rub or examine it constantly. Gentle is the watchword.

Protect it from the sun

If there is one universal rule, this is it. Treated skin is often more vulnerable to the sun, and unprotected exposure can undermine both recovery and results. Diligent daily sun protection is the most reliable way to look after any investment in your skin, and it matters long after the recovery period is over.

Ease off heat and strenuous activity

For a period after many treatments, it is sensible to pause intense exercise, hot showers, saunas and anything that significantly raises the skin’s temperature or blood flow. Your practitioner will tell you how long applies in your case.

Hold your actives for a moment

Strong skincare actives are excellent in the right place, but the first days after treatment are usually not that place. Simplify your routine to gentle, supportive products until you are advised that it is safe to reintroduce the rest. If in doubt, ask rather than guess.

Know what is normal, and when to call

Some redness, mild swelling or sensitivity is expected after many treatments and settles on its own. You should always be told what is normal for your specific treatment, and what would warrant getting in touch. If something concerns you, contact the clinic rather than wait and worry.

Aftercare is also where a longer-term plan is protected. Treatments such as microneedling and skin-quality programmes reward consistent, sensible care between sessions.

If you have a treatment planned and want to feel confident about the recovery, your consultation and appointment are the right moments to ask every aftercare question you have.

Frequently asked questions

Is aftercare the same for every treatment?

No. Aftercare is specific to the treatment and to you, and precise instructions are given at your appointment. The principles below are general rather than a substitute for that advice.

How important is sun protection afterwards?

Very. Protecting treated skin from sun exposure is one of the most consistently valuable things you can do to support recovery and results.
